Both Virgin and Qantas announced that their frequent flier members will now be able to earn 1 point for every dollar they spend at the Airbnb property. This the first time Airbnb has joined forces with major airlines to reward frequent flyer members.
“We know many of our customers are just as likely to arrange an Airbnb as they are to book a hotel, and we wanted to recognize and reward them for that,” said Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce.
While traditional hotels are considering this “a slap in the face”, consumers are celebrating this move in an astringent mileage rewards environment.
Virgin America is sweetening the deal by offering not only the dollar to point match, but also giving first time bookers 1,500 bonus points and a $20 Airbnb credit. By becoming a Host on Airbnb you can earn 20,000 Elevate points after you complete your 5th night hosting.
