MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK

The Los Angeles Roundup (Part I)

Los Angeles Fashion Week came of age this year at Smashbox Studios, cutting back on the party circuit and focusing on 23 shows pairing some of the best in the city with lesser-known but worthy talent.  To celebrate, IndulgeMagazine.com presents its first installment of everything you need to know about the season’s best and brightest.

Call it frivolous if you must but who can resist the sex appeal of a chiseled, minimally clad hunk on the runaway?  For their first appearance at the MB Fashion show, the wildly popular underwear line revealed more than just your grandpa’s ‘fruit of the loom’ variety.  More colorful and made with luxury fabrics like 95% soy that’s supposed to feel better than cashmere on your skin.  The first collection was Varsity, a college-jock-sport inspired line that featured the Corona Del Mar High School CDM Drumline and Orchesis dancers, as well as the Lakers.

ALVIN VALLEY

Cuban-born designer, Valley who usually focuses on pants ala Katherine Hepburn showcases his Autumn/Winter collection with an emphasis on quality fabrics, great tailoring and classic colors.  Shades of grey, brown, and neutrals were made exciting by their classic, versatile cuts and splashes of color from tomato red to canary yellow for the tops.  “I’m obsessed with empowering women and making them beautiful,” Valley said.

SUE WONG

Sexy, sophisticated and romantic, Wong’s collection was the equivalent of a world tour.  Starting off with a harp performance by Carol Robbins to set the mood, the show blended exciting hairstyles with chignons and braids, ornaments and sculptural pieces to accent the elegant, one-of-a-kind dresses.  Embroidered, crocheted pieces, saucy Mexican palettes reminiscent of a Kahlo painting and exotic, psychodelic prints.  A delight from start to finish.
